POLLOCK TECHNIQUE

  • If glue was applied to the site to deter any bleeding and encourage skin closure, take extra precautions, and pay extra attention when cleaning and caring for the site over the coming week.
  • The glue will go extremely hard, do not attempt to pull /pick/scratch the glue off.
  • Continue to use the Vaseline and gauze around the head of the penis generously over the next week after each time you urinate.
  • If you find some of the glue is stuck causing it to be a little difficult to remove, you can use lukewarm water to allow you to carefully remove the compression bandage as the water dissolves the glue.
  • Do not use water all over the bandage as it will dissolve the glue.

BLEEDING

  • If there is bleeding from the head of the penis (more than a few drops) immediately apply pressure to the area as the nurse demonstrated at the appointment.
  • Whilst applying pressure using the 3 minutes holding on, 3 seconds holding off demonstrated at the appointment contact Dr Hunt 0448 792 128 or immediately call 000 in an emergency.

MEDICAL GLUE

  • Glue was applied to the site to deter bleeding and encourage skin closure. The glue will go extremely hard, do not attempt to pull / pick/ scratch the glue off as this may open the wound and cause pain.
  • Take extra precautions when cleaning and caring for the site for 7 days.
  • If you find some of the glue is stuck causing it to be a little difficult to remove, use lukewarm water to allow you to carefully remove the compression bandage as the water dissolves the glue.
  • Do not use water all over the bandage as it will dissolve the glue and do not fully immerse under water as this will dissolve the glue and potentially open the wound.
  • Do not use creams, powder, lotion or wipes on the wound line as this may cause pain.

REMOVING THE GAUZE

  • Each time you go to the toilet to urinate you need to replace the gauze.
  • Apply Vaseline over the wound line using a clean finger or the applicator provided in the aftercare kit.

REMOVING THE BANDAGE

STEP 1

  • At your appointment, the doctor or nurse will tell you when to remove the bandages as this is patient-specific, if you do not remember text your name to Dr Hunt and he will tell you when to remove the compression bandage – 0448 792 128.
  •  If the compression bandage falls off leave it off.
  • On the day you have been advised to remove the bandage gently peel away the surfaces that are no longer stuck and repeat until it has all been removed. It is okay to do this a little at a time over the course of the day as it always comes off.

STEP 2

  • There will be a long gauze strip wrapped around the penis under the compression bandage which needs to be removed.

STICKING BANDAGE

  • Place the gauze given to you at the appointment (with some Vaseline on it) on the penis for the remainder of the 24-hour period.
  • If after 24 hours the gauze strip is still in place, it will have to be removed.
  • If you need Dr Hunt to remove it please arrange an appointment.

INFECTION

  • Although rare, there have been reported cases of infection. Common signs of infection include a pus-like discharge, a foul smell, excessive swelling, redness, local warmth, a fever, or a rash anywhere in the area of the penis. With any of these symptoms contact Dr Hunt 0448 792 128.
